Damselfish
Size: max 70 cm
Habitat and distribution: 2-40 m. Mediterranean sea and Eastern Atlantic from Portugal to the Gulf of Guinea
It is the sole representative of the Pomacentridae family. It forms small shoals in midwater above or near rocky reefs and above sea-grass meadows. The youngest fish, which are a brilliant blue in colour, are light- sensitive and take shelter inside caves, among crevices or shaded environments. Reproduction occurs during summer. The male courts the female until she lays the eggs in a nest created on rocky or sandy bottoms and right after he chases her away. The eggs adhere to the substrate and are guarded and oxygenated by the male

Castagnola
Sea bass
Size: max 1 m
Habitat and distribution: 10-100 m. Eastern Atlantic from Norway to Senegal, Mediterranean sea and Black sea.
Found in the littoral zone on various kinds of bottoms, this species tolerates high variation of salinity, so it frequently enters estuaries, lagoons and occasionally rivers. It is mostly a night hunter: juveniles feed chiefly on invertebrates and adults prey mainly on fish. Young fish form school, but adults appear to be less gregarious. Spawning occurs in groups once a year and eggs are pelagic. Hatching takes place three days after laying and larval development lasts 40 days. Max reported age is 30 years.

Spigola

It can be found both in marine and brackish waters. It is a protandrous hermaphrodite species, meaning that it is born as a male and later in its life it changes to female.
